Artist: Tall Thunda
Sha’Ran Lowe, known as Tall Thunda, is a multidisciplinary artist, muralist, tattoo artist, and creative educator whose work explores Black life, imagination, cultural pride, and the power of possibility. Born and raised in the Bay Area, California, and shaped by communities across the country, her practice exists at the intersection of art, education, and community.
Working primarily in acrylic alongside mixed media, spray paint, and paint pens, Tall Thunda pairs deep contrasts with vibrant color, movement, and light to create work that feels bold, youthful, and alive. Her name reflects the same philosophy behind her practice: even within life’s storms, there is power in creating something that strikes, illuminates, and transforms.
With more than a decade as a licensed educator, Sha’Ran’s creative and educational practices are deeply connected. She believes art can be a bridge: between generations, classrooms and communities, individual expression and collective identity. Whether through a canvas, tattoo, public mural, classroom, or community-centered project, she creates opportunities for people to see themselves reflected, valued, and capable of shaping the spaces around them.
At the heart of Tall Thunda’s work is the Black Dreamer: the freedom to imagine beyond what already exists and create what comes next. Her work is an invitation to dream boldly, build collectively, and move through the world authentically and unapologetically.
